 Thor APEX First ADA Compliant Stackable Washer Dryer

(LOS ANGELES) – Thor Appliance Company, a leading supplier of specialty home appliances, today announced that its new APEX ventless laundry set is the first stackable washer dryer to fully comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. 

Thor’s new APEX pairs a ventless stand-alone dryer atop a washer/dryer combination, allowing the bottom half of the laundry set to both wash and dry clothing independent of the top unit.  With the lower washer dryer combination fully accessible, developers that install APEX machines are able to meet ADA standards throughout a building without altering floor plans or changing laundry machine installation configurations.

“When the APEX washer dryer is installed in every unit, the developer or management firm is assured that every residential unit meets ADA standards,” said Matthew Lee, vice president of product design.  "In the case of other stackable sets which do not meet ADA requirements, the developer may need to rearrange the project’s layout or source a different washer dryer for those residential units designated ADA compliant,” Lee said. 

In order for a laundry appliance to comply with ADA requirements, its control panel and washer/dryer tub must be fully accessible to those in a wheelchair.  Regular stackable laundry machines with dryer controls high off the ground are not wheelchair accessible.
